Margins and Relative Position

Post by The Cynergist »

Hi all,

I've been trying to figure out for some time now how the cut margins work for my cameo 3 in SCAL 4. I generally use the x, y, coordinates for positioning my designs.

I place my vinyl along the edge of the grid on the mat, and my designs a quarter inch from the edge of the grid on the virtual mat assuming the cut will begin there. the cricut mats have a quarter inch margin for vinyl placement, but the cameo mats don't have that margin. This has resulted in the top portion of my designs not getting cut. Silhouette Studio software uses a red border around the virtual mat to show the cut area that is visible to the machine, and as long as your designs are inside the red border everything gets cut. SCAL's virtual mat doesn't show the cut area. I have SCAL set to use the Cameo 3 mat.

I'm wondering if I should be using the relative position box next to the x,y settings. I couldn't find any documentation on how to use this box either in the SCAL manual, google or youtube. Does anyone know how the relative position works, and whether or not I should be using it?

Should I maybe calibrate my machine, or is that just for print and cut? Also, I don't fully understand the window on the right hand side of the cut settings. Everything seems to be fine with my design placements in that window, but I'm not sure if maybe I'm not reading it right.

Thank you in advance.

What format can you use? scal, ecal, svg etc. I have one if it is not to late to help you. Do you want to layer the two alpha pieces or cut as one piece?
