problem with shadowing some fonts

Post by shawnamy501 »

I updated my SCAL2 to version 2.043 a couple of weeks ago and ever since then I'm not able to use the shadow on some fonts, such as Scriptina and Aquarelle. I pulled up a file that I had cut in the previous version, and it now looks like this. Anyone have any ideas why it's doing this? I really need to cut Aquarelle with a shadow for a gift I'm making soon.

I think maybe you did something with ungroup. Try just typing and spacing all in one operation and then do the shadow and don't ungroup or breakapart. Not sure...I don't have that font to test it.

I didn't ungroup it or break apart. I've tried this multiple times, starting fresh, typing a word, and when I change the shadow it does this.

maybe it is the font...because I tried with basic ariel and segoe script and another and it worked fine. I just don't have that font. Not sure what to say.

I know...post the words just typed and put up the file of the words just typed normal and I will see if I can make a shadow for you. How big do you want it and do you want it all blackout...no holes in the shadow?

That font won't shadow in SCAL2 for me either. Here is a work-around that you can use:

Place a small shape anywhere inside the text, making sure that it is completely within the cutlines (I used the tiny green circle below).
Select the text and the shape and use Path/Union.

You will be able to shadow the words after using Path/Union.

Thanks Heather, I will give it a try.

gj1 - I don't think it's the font because the shadow feature worked fine on the font before I updated to 2.043.

I have run into this same problem with a couple of svg files. What great advice Heather... I never thought of that. Thanks.

Heather, I just wanted to take the time to thank you for this fix. I have often run into this problem and didn't know there was a work around. You have really made my day!
