CUT LINES when using 'Simplify' - scal is 'activated'

Good Morning -

I'm using a file that I’ve used time and time again with NO issues. Please
see attached screen shot.
The font I’m using is a detailed one, so I ALWAYS simplify (to reduce
nodes). So this morning I went to click on each line and simplify the
nodes and you’ll see that there’s a LINE
In the A in FONTAINE (it’s a last name). I’m nervous to even attempt to
cut this because it’s creating these lines for
Each section (last name and dates). I'm using SCAL 4.025 for Mac.
I don't know why this is happening. My SCAL is activated.

Here's another example where I went ahead and 'simplified' all the DATE lines. So, I'd click on the line, then PATH, then SIMPLIFY and you can see all these weird cut lines. Again, my SCAL version is ACTIVATED.It's happening with all my old, existing files but using previous created files is how I run my business....not having to 'recreate' font/formatting each time. I've done this for YEARS and never had a problem until now. I have a small business and it's critical I find a fix...Thank you for anyone that can offer some help!

I think your answer is in your picture of the settings. Higher threshold ... will deform the shape. There must be a segment that when you simplify it at this Threshold, it deforms it by giving you the extra lines.

Todd - Thank you for your reply. I've tried modifying all the threshold everywhere from 10 - 100 and still getting these lines. I've never had these lines before ever....ugh!

I am having the same issue. My design looks like I have used the "merge" command. Nope, just simplify.
