Printing heavy cardstock

For the last few years, I have been helping out friends with wedding and party invitations. I would like to start doing this on a bit bigger scale now that I am a stay-at-home mom with our new baby. I currently have a run of the mill HP inkjet printer that has a hard time handling cardstock over 110 lbs. I also have a problem with drying time and smearing when it comes to printing on smooth paper like shimmer paper or vellum. So, I thought maybe a laser printer was the way to go, but I see they only use paper specific for them. With that in mind, can anyone recommend a good printer that will handle cardstock greater than 110 lb.? The last invites I did used 150 lb. cardstock. Thanks!

hello, i have the canon pixma ix6520 it is the closest inkjet printer to commercial, it has a wide carriage that you can print even 12"x12" paper, just remember to go into the settings and find where your ink drying time slider is and set it all the way to fast dry time, this will use less ink. hope this helps. you can get this printer at staples for $200 bucks and you even get to use the canon creative park, you can download templates for boxes cards and print them, also photographs, they even have templates for paper model toys, i love it.

I just purchased an HP Officejet 7000 Wide Format...mostly because it can print wide formats for cards and scrapbook paper. I never thought about the cardstock weight when I bought it though, and I'm so sorry I didn't!

Fact is, it will do it...but when it's about to spit out the just printed page, it lets me know it's not happy by not ejecting the entire page--but again, it works, so I just grab it as soon as I hear it stop printing (though it's probably ruining the printer slowly and surely). Certainly not what you probably want when you are going for a new business....

It prints great though with all that said--please let us know what printer you decide on! I'll be hunting again once this poor printer can't spit the cardstock out any more!

Oh that does stink..........I can share with you that I have an Epson 1100 Workforce Large Format Printer that is a straight feed and it does a wonderful job on 110# cardstock.....I'm sure I could do a bit thicker but haven't tried any thicker then 110# as that's what I usually use.....I have also printed on Watercolor paper as well.......

We have a Canon 9000, wide carriage PHOTO printer, since DH is a photographer and we need to print on photo glossy paper.

Before the PHOTO printers we had ink smears too, but photo printers print on glossy materials better and have more options for material selection.
