How to cut a single line using SCAL

Post by chabby12 »

Hi everyone

I'm new to using SCAL and have been testing it to make my own templates and vectors. Does anyone know how to get SCAL to cut a single line? Sometimes it seems to do this weird loop thing at the end of a line. Here's what I'm trying to make a template for because it was always such a pain to make this card by using a regular paper cutter:

I have tried using the line tool in Illustrator as well as played a bit with Inkscape. I know the general idea of saving as svg and importing into SCAL. For some reason, it just doesn't seem to want to cut out an unfinished shape and prefers to "close" off the shape.

Any help would be great. Ideally, I'd like to be able to use either the line tool in Illustrator.

Thanks everyone!

Chabby,
SCAL can only cut closed paths, not single lines. The closest you can get is a line that doubles back on itself. To get that, use the rectangle shape and make it infinitely narrow.
In Inkscape or Illustrator, draw a line that doubles back on itself by clicking the start point, clicking the end point and then back at the start point and pressing enter. (That's in Inkscape, should be similar in Illustrator).

Check out Penny Duncan's blog - she has a template already made for this card type. Here's the link >>>> http://pennyduncancreations.blogspot.co ... -card.html
