Sometimes the Brother ScanNCut can be difficult to use if you want to alter things and sometimes it doesn't pick up edges properly.
You can use SCAL to import images, trace them, alter them and send the cut file to the ScanNCut directly.
Your ScanNCut must have a printer port. I think most of the newer ones do, I don't know about the earlier ones.
Connect your computer to the ScanNCut using a standard printer cable. You should then find it listed in 'Other Devices' if you go to Settings/Devises/Other devises.
Import your image into SCAL using the File/Place Image command.
Now you can trace it, put a border round it or manual trace any fiddly bits you want.
Turn on the Brother ScanNCUt
When you're happy with your cut file, select it, export it to FCM and find your Brother ScanNCut. It will be listed as a USB Drive.
Save it to the USB Drive and give it a name.
Go to the Brother ScanNCut and find your cutting file in Pattern/Saved Data/computer (third icon on the right).
Put the cutting file on the cutting mat.
Delete the cutting file from the SCAL mat and print your image directly from SCAL using the File/Print command. You can use the Preferences button to change aything in your printer before you actually print your image. You don't need to print any registration marks.
Once you have printed the image, place your paper, card etc on the Brother mat and load the mat.
Scan the paper into the machine with the scan button. (Bottom icon on the cut screen window). Don't use the scan to cut data or scan from file function, just load the mat and scan the paper. You should see your image on the paper.
Now place your cutting file over the image in the place you want and away you go!
If you want to use the file again, you must save it as it will disappear once you turn off the Brother ScanNCut or your computer.
Hope this helps
