How can I find a tutorial on using the knife tool in SCAL or

I need some help trying to figure out the way to take part of an SVG file and cut away the rest. What I am looking to do is, I purchased some labEl SVG files, however I only want to use the top of it to make a edge border as you would have with spellbinders or Sizzix die. When I use the dies I can manipulate the die and only cut a border edge. I would like to be able to make larger tags and page borders (8 inches) the dies just do not come large enough. I have looked to purchase SVGS already designed but I am having no such luck. I thought maybe the knife feature on the tool bar but I cannot figure it out and I am having trouble finding any written or video instructions. Thank for your help :roll:

Last fall, I wrote a detailed SCAL user manual as part of the KNK cutters I support. Note that this manual is based on SCAL 4. If that's the version you're using, then have a look at Section 8.07 which covers both the Knife and the Crop tools. You might find that the Crop tool works better for what you want to do:
