I have tried this several ways and I can't do it. These are a group svg file, it says it at the bottom in Ink. The message at the bottom says:
Group of 4 objects in Layer 1.
I only want to use one of the objects in this group. Can someone tell me how to do this?
Thanks in advance.

Choose the ungroup function. Choose the object file then ungroup. If it is a svg pdf you may have to ungroup more then once but it will tell you in the message at the bottom of the screen.

Here is an awesome tip I learned from Heather M at this tutorial
http://imagesbyheatherm.wordpress.com/2 ... es-to-svg/
Hold down the control key and click with the selection (arrow) tool and you can select one item from a group.
Then you can copy and paste it to a new document or edit>invert selection and delete everything else.
