Here is a post that shows how to in scal3/ecal viewtopic.php?t=24049

You don't say which version of scal you are using so if you have scal2 you would select your text and go to options/add shadow layer, you can increase the size of the outline there too.

If you just want an outline with no fill color you just change fill color to none, stoke color to whatever color suits.

If you need more come on back and let me know what did and did not work.

I may still be confused (it happens alot). But I think what you want is to cut the words as one piece. If so you need to move each letter so that it touches its neighbor and do a path/union. Then you would do a shadow/blackout for the white background. Those two pieces would be cut separately and glued together.

Are you planning to cut the flag as well?

If I missed again,

Never settle if you don't have too.

If you want to cut in one piece, no layering.

Type your word, draw draw 2 rectangles place one on to just overlapping the top, do the same with the bottom.

Select all and path/union
