this is called placing the text on a path. useful for cutting vinyl in swirls & other shapes, etc. as well as in your layouts.

*open your font if not installed on your computer
*open inkscape
*type out your text
*select pencil tool on left side tool bar: click on canvas & draw your desired shape

this is what you should see
path on text step 2.jpg

next, select /highlight both text and the shape you drew. like this:

next, go to text: put on path

this is what you'll see

next, click off the canvas & click the text or the line you drew.
*separate them.
*click on the text you typed,
*go to path: object to path.
*now click the line you drew & click delete

you should end up with this:

now you have your curved text or text on a path :)

you can use any shape as the path--simple shapes work best. they look very cute on a spiral or circle. I am using this method to put a quote on a wavy path for my kitchen walls. you can use a square to put text around some framed pictures or a layout too.

side note: I know my "curved" line wasn't the best, just showing that as an example ;)

Thanks for the brilliant instructions, I could follow them with no trouble. You should be writing the manual for these people.

Jancy,

Neat instructions! Thank you!

Question: Instead of drawing a line can we use a circle or a square or any other shape and have the words 'wrap' around those shapes?

you sure can. you can use any shape from inkscape or insert your own from your files.

well.............lol. I don't need to size anything I make in inkscape because I typically use my files with my Wishblade & resize it to my liking in WB software. Not sure what SCAL options are as I don't have it yet. I'm sure someone else does know though.
