Hello all;
I'am just getting stated with inkscape, and I'am having trouble converting my jepg to svg file. I have tried several times and just can't get it right. This is a logo for our Elementary school library for the kids reading program. Can anyone help me get it fixed?
Thanks in advance

Re: Newbie having Trouble with image
Here is a layered svg for you. I used different trace thresholds and Path operations, but I could have probably done it just as fast using the Bezier tool. HTH

Thanks Heather
I just could not get it traced the way you did. I gusee I'll learn. I imported the svg into SCAL but can't seem to get the parts of the cardinal into seperate layers. I have been searching for more tutorials on how to move svg parts to layers in SCAL but have not been able to find one, they talk about when you create an object in SCAL that looks easy. What do I need to do to get the parts form inkscape to layers in SCAL?
Thanks
Jerry

Re: Newbie having Trouble with image
If you are using Inkscape and have SCAL2, the easiest way is to select all of the pieces you want on the same layer, and use Control G. Do this for each color/layer. SCAL1 hated Object/Group but SCAL2 will import each group into its own layer.
The important thing to know when tracing an image that has red and black is that red is very close to black in value, so you need to reduce the Brightness setting to separate the colors. Also, if you are using Inkscape 0.48 it has some new quirks with tracing.
