when you download the file for the program, I think it gives you the option to "run" or "save". Just choose run and the program will install.

Thanks for the help, I could have sworn that I picked run the first time because I always do but I must not have because I did the download againand now its installing.

OK, I downloaded inkscape, made a title and saved it. Went to SCAL, imported it, and voila -- nothing. Red box comes up empty. Any thoughts as to what I'm doing wrong? I may be trying to sprint before I take the training wheels off here, but I so want to try it...

If you are just doing straight fonts, it might be easier to use SCAL. Using Inkscape, there are a few more steps to take.
  • Type the text
Select the text (will have surrounding box with arrows)
    Go to Path/Object to Path
    Go to Path/Union
Then save and it should appear

That's what I did. What I came up with when I imported it was an empty box.

Sorry it didn't work for you. I tried saving a file by just typing a word and saving it and I ended up with a blank square when I imported it into SCAL.

When I followed the instructions I gave you, it worked fine.

Make sure when you go to object to path and Union that the text box is selected I did it a few times without and got the empty box but then went back and made sure the box was around the text and it worked great!

Thanks for explaining the run instead of save! I just tried to download inkscape yesterday and couldn't for the life of me find an .exe file. I'll try again with the run option. I can't wait to play with it!
