I went to Craft Edge http://www.craftedge.com/download/download.html and hit the download button for my version. It was pretty quick and painless. :D

I just purchased a new computer running Windows 7 OS. I had previously purchased SCAL 2.0 for my old Vista OS computer. So, I installed the latest version of SCAL on the new computer and it appeared that everything installed correctly. However, when I select "cut with Cricut" it hangs up at "Checking Mat..." In order to stop the process I have to right click on the SCAL icon and select "close window". Upon doing this the SCAL opens again and gives me the error "an error occurred while trying to cut". Did I do something wrong with the install? I have no idea why it won't work on my new computer...help! I should also mention that I downloaded the USB drivers. I have an Intel Core i3 CPU processor and I verified that I have the correct Cricut firmware.

I to am having the same problem. It hangs at "checking mat"
Here's what I have tried
  • 3 different computers. 1 with Vista 2 with XP.
each computer I've tried 3 different cables in different usb slots.
anti virus bot enabled and disabled
I have never got the cricut to work.
P.S. yes it is plugged in and turned on.

HELP PLEASE.

Thank you.

Have you tried to update the firmware on your Cricut machine using the trial version of Design Studio? Sometimes that fixes the problem.

Also, there may have been a problem with the installation and activation. Did you get a message saying it was complete when you activated your SCAL software on the Craft Edge website?

Sjm,
Read this topic. There is a post with a picture. You might want to check your computer and see if there is an Exclamation mark anywhere on your drivers.
