You could just type your word, and then click "ungroup" too... might be quicker that way.l

It already has a way to make dashed lines... Over in the properties box, "line style"... several different dashed lines... and then, I think if you fiddled with it... the pen tool: draw a line, and then bend it, then change the line style... I don't know exactly how to do it, but I'm prett...

Just break it apart :D whoops... I think I actually meant "ungroup"... you could always cover up your shape too, and do path back minus front too I think...? Ungroup should do it though... If you break it apart the centers of your letters will break apart too, I think? just fiddle around ...
