For cutting do you want the outline of the letters to cut or cut the whole thing into pieces - like paper piercing >
If you want it all to cut then you will need to ensure all the lines are paths - not images !

First of all do you mean chevron and in a letter with the extra parts around it as in your photo. In which case select all the pieces and make sure you only have two paths the use path/combine.
