This is REALLY easy...you can do this using basic Ink features and the nice tut from ScrappyDew on Bulge and Warp text.

I used ScrappyDew's tutorial on Bulge and got a perfect monogram. I was able to import and resize it with no distortion.

Ink .47, SCAL2

If you're going to use inkscape .47 I would suggest using the Path Editor and use Envelope Deformation or Bend feature.
