Craft Edge

I was trying to use a template for the scalloped edge and I thought I needed to place my cutting lines beyond the mat parameters so it would cut only the side of the scalloped edge. However, it cut about 1/2" or so inside the mat's edge. Am I making sense? I also extended another template about...

I am also getting the cut line under the 3 scallops. If you open the svg file and ungroup, that segment is separate from the rest of the card. Does anyone know how to join them?
