I think hellie0h is 100% correct.
But I have to say, I am satisfied with SCAL so if I had to quite getting updates I would be OK with it. Or at least I will be happy with it until I can afford to get a better cutter-which i am saving for. I just can't support a company that is so downright cruel.

I am far from being an expert but would it be easier to type the letters directly in SCAL? That way you can move each individual letter to be exactly how tall you want it to be?

Have you tried changing USB cords...that connects to the computer and the Cricut? Or making sure it is plugged in firmly to both the cricut and the computer.
