The free trial version of DS will only cut with George, or Plantin Schoolbook. The firmware update is not a limited time thing though - it actually updates your machine. Once you have updated your firmware, you can keep the DS trial version or delete it; it is not needed to run SCAL. If you recently...

I know there were some people who bought the software and couldn't get it to work, so Todd refunded their money. If getting an extension of the trial period isn't possible, you might ask if they would still consider this.

If I am working with a font I don't use often, I don't even install it. I just go to the folder where I have it saved (not my windows system folder) and double click on the font. Microsoft updates our computers daily. I would assume that it is safe. This should be a similar process.
